In all of Dimash’s performances there is a certain indefinable quality, an excellence of sound, tone and vocalisation that you would be hard put to find anywhere else. So, in fairness, the last place you would genuinely expect to hear Dimash singing is in a Rap fusion. But that is where we find him delivering a surprising rawness, passion and enormous commitment to this song.
Earth Song by Michael Jackson is revisited by Dimash and Victor Ma, (Ma Bojun) an upcoming Chinese Rap artist and on paper this collaboration should not work. In reality it blew my mind! This little hidden Gem has only recently come to light but was recorded live on another Chinese competition (Not the I am Singer show as far as I can tell) back in 2017. I have no idea why it’s just resurfaced but I am very happy it has!
The second song I’m featuring here is Dimash singing ‘The Crown’. The beautiful melancholic tone to this song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.
I first saw him sing this in a 2018 video, my preference is for this more mature performance, performed at the Annual Global Chinese Music Charts Ceremony on 25th December 2021. Both his stage presence and vocal maturity are much richer in this version.
There isn’t much more to say, both these songs are stand alone excellence in my opinion and manage to showcase Dimash’s talent in very different ways. His grasp of the chinese language in ‘The Crown’ is much more fluent and natural sounding than in previous versions. I take my hat off to him, to sing in a foreign language when you are less than fluent in that language is a hugely difficult task, but of course he pulls it off with style as usual.
Oh man that tone. There is literally no one else like him, his talent is unparalleled.
I hope you enjoy these two little Gems as much as I did!
As always if you wish to see more of Dimash take a quick trip over to YouTube and visit his official YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/c/DimashQudaibergen_official
You won’t want to leave… I promise.
