Just a quick note to all you lovely Gem followers who are currently engrossed in Karla’s Journals and her sexy adventures therein.
As you are all now aware, Karla’s character is very hot and horny but also very complex and it is proving difficult for me to step out of her head and back into my own headspace. If it appears to you all that I seem to have had a personality change, don’t worry, I have.
Karla is currently riding me, figuratively speaking of course, but she is adamant in her demands to have her story told, so I have absorbed it wholeheartedly and disappeared inside her head for a little while.
I don’t know how many of you write the same way I do and become completely immersed in your characters/plot/story to the point they take you over, but it’s exhausting trying to be two people at the same time. I feel like I have turned into my sexy evil twin! Writing her from my own view point is not as intense as writing it from hers. I’ve gone with hers. I’m exploring the darker side of my own eroticism and discovering I like it, very much.
I love her character and hate it all at the same time but I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge of being where she lives in my mind! I promise most of the changes are not permanent, they will last as long as Karla’s story continues to unfold.
That said, she is driving my sexual desires and needs right now too, and while I confess my natural inclination is to be highly sexed and very naughty, Karla is teaching me a thing or two along the way! Actually, I’m loving the freedom she affords me! I will be hanging on to a few of her traits in this department! I’m enjoying them too much to give them up!
So, my responses to comments you make on my posts may be a little (or a lot) stronger than I would normally make. Enjoy… we all know I love to flirt heavily sometimes…. Karla likes to flirt heavily all of the time! Especially when I receive such wonderful responses from you all!

Hi MJ and welcome to my naughty world! I’m Gem to all and currently Karla too as you just read! I have suffered with writer’s block for a number of years, I was writing ‘vanilla’ sitcom scripts and stage plays, and I ran out of material, literally. I couldn’t scare up a scene that would make me raise a smile let alone a belly laugh! It took me some time to understand that I needed a new direction to go in for a while. I haven’t written story form for a very long time so I decided on my spanking journals as a good place to start. So in November last year Journey of Self Discovery – Gemma was born!
I can honestly say, from there to here in just a year… wow! My mind is alive with endless possibilities and I think I may have found my preferred genre to write in! Erotica with a twist of dark and a little pinch of crazy added just for good measure!

Thank you Love. So nice to meet someone in the community right out of the gate. I am a married man to a very vanilla wife who does not allow such frivolity in the boudoir. So the creations in my head are the brainchild of what I have read and seen over the years. This genre is one I have been actively trying to avoid. The reasons for such are multiple and I don’t know why I haven’t just jammed out what is in my head and has been for years now. There’s an element of shame in popular American culture for what what I consider not shameful at all. I love the thought of my character falling into situations that put her in trouble with the boss or with her husband. I don’t have a Gemma and immersion in my work has never been total in any stretch for obvious reasons. We still have young children in the house and while my gorgeous vanilla bride might be willing in her head, her body would not be.
I hope this remains to be my preferred genre. It is fun and while not easy when not actively doing it, my imagination takes me places I have never been and probably never go. So nice to meet you.

Very nice to meet you to MJ. I think not actively doing it is no bar to the imagination letting loose and building your stories anyway! Let’s face it, not every thriller writer has murdered someone in order to be able to know how to write about it. (I hope)
I’m beginning to realise I’m quite lucky in the immersion writing process, in that not many writers are fortunate enough to have that luxury!
It is a fun genre to write and to be frank, the shaming culture in any country now need to get over themselves. Most of them are hypocrites anyway. They do it behind closed doors but would swear they never did! Naughty is fun. Being spanked for being naughty is even more fun! 😛

I’ve never had the experience that you are having (being totally immersed into a character)…as a writer, I must say…I am a bit jealous! I am glad that Tom is there to keep you safe and meet all of your naughtiest, darkest desires. Your story of Karla is absolutely phenomenal… I look forward to reading about, and experiencing (because that is how vivid your writing is!) what happens next 🙂

Just as an aside to my previous comment, this immersion into my character’s mind, I have noticed that once the character has arrived in my head fully formed, I constantly imagine how they would think, feel, react to their environment. Even when I’m not writing, when I’m just going about my normal day. I imagine how they would feel about the mundane aspects of life versus how they would feel if they were put into a dangerous situation, what their fight or flight limits are. I constantly test their reactions to everything I see or hear or do to see how their personality as I understand it would react in that same situation. So, for instance, last night I took a hard spanking (thank you Nora) from Tom with a wooden paddle and in my head Karla’s reaction was markedly different to mine. She wanted more pain than I did, she wanted harsher strokes, and she was screaming for me to wind Tom up more and push him harder. He would have reacted very badly to that, so in that sense, while I can use it in her story, I could never allow that aspect of her personality full reign in my head! Fighting my deeper, darker urges is extremely challenging. I feel like I am living with my evil twin right now. The immersion is not really a conscious thought process, I just sort of tumble in there and have to explore this other mind that has been handed to me. I love Alice in Wonderland, because of the tumble down the rabbit hole! I often feel like Alice! I never know what will happen next.
On the bright side, I don’t often get a character like Karla popping up, although I had a rather fabulous serial killer character came to stay for awhile just before my ex-husband left. If I’d had the headspace at that time to immerse myself, I would probably be living Karla’s life right now!
My usual characters are funny, ornery, stubborn and hilariously outspoken! ‘They’ say write what you know! I do, I do… until Karla arrived on the scene. 😈💋💖💖😘

I think that is awesome, Gemma! I’ve read a few “how-to write a memorable character” books, designed to help fiction writers, and many of them describe the process as you just did. I’ve never been able to get there myself but I find it fascinating that you’ve got both your own thoughts/reactions and Karla’s bouncing around in your head. As a writer, I think that would be such an incredible experience! I hope you know that I am one of your biggest fans…can’t wait to read what you write next 🙂

She gives me a massive headache if I don’t let her out, but I confess to loving the buzz of a full character immersion. I can really feel her taking on her proper shape and I know what her mission is about now. I finally know where the ending is, and it is a stunner. 😋xx

Thank you Nora, don’t be jealous of this though, it’s damned hard work trying to gain enough equilibrium to remain sane! I am actually prowling around the house growling like a feral cat when I’m not at the keyboard. Tom is obviously delighted with this recent turn of events, it feeds straight into his own personal darker desires completely! Maybe that’s where she sprang from? I know since he came home the heat has been turned up tremendously, but this is almost unbearable in its intensity! I am constantly horny! He’s also utterly delighted with all the naughty comments too! Again, feeds directly into his own desires. Y’know, that Bear could be the reason this is happening? Subliminal messaging? Controlled and manipulated from all directions! I might have to bring out Karla’s mean streak with him…😈😈💋😋
